- Objectives:
- Students will be introduced to the works of important Spanish and Latin American painters and movements, beginning with the Siglo de Oro in Spain and ending with 20th Century Latin America.
- Students will identify the works and styles of 7 great hispanic artists. Artists studied will be (in chronological order) El Greco and mannerism (Spain-early Siglo de Oro), Diego Velázquez and realism in portraiture (Spain-Siglo de Oro y El Barroco), Francisco Goya (Spain-Baroque), Pablo Picasso and cubism (Spain 1950s-1980s), Salvador Dalí and surrealism ((Spain-1960s-early 1980s), Frida Kahlo and self-invention through portraiture (early 20th Century Mexico), Diego Rivera and muralism (1950s-1970s Mexico).
- Students will be introduced to the works of important Spanish and Latin American painters and movements, beginning with the Siglo de Oro in Spain and ending with 20th Century Latin America.
CUADRO 2- EL HUMORISMO
- Objectives
- Students will learn to recognize and identify the use of irony in hispanic literature.
- Students will analyze three short stories (cuentos breves) and three "chistes" (extended jokes) for vocabulary recognition and theme:

- Students will create a reproduction of one of the stories studied above as a children's book. This project will be completed in small groups.
