Skill Practice (aka Homework):
Skill practice will be given nearly every day. Skill practice is rarely given on Fridays. Optional skill practice will also be given: this practice is for the student to take the opportunity and initiative to guarantee their success in the class. Required skill practice will be checked for completion at the beginning of the period the following day before reviewing/correcting it. Please refer to syllabus you were given on the first day for late, make-up, and suspension policies regarding homework. A link to more information regarding extended practice (homework) can be found on the "More Homework Information" page in the drop down menu for the home page on this website. For extra help, make an appointment with me for either lunch or after school in M-110. Homework will be considered late if turned in at any point during the 24 hours after it is due and will be assessed a 50% point penalty/reduction at the time it is submitted. No homework will be accepted more than 24 hours late.
Assessments:
I will assign various regular and pop-quizzes (unannounced) each chapter. Pop quizzes are 10-50 points each. Chapter tests are 50-100 points. Oral exams, including projects are 100 points each. The Final Exam at the end of each semester is 100 questions plus an essay/short answer question and worth 15 % of the total semester points accumulated. Tests can be made up at lunch or after school, by appointment only. I will announce most (but not all) tests or quizzes before administering them. There will also be various projects and creative activities assigned for you to demonstrate mastery of the curriculum.
Participation:
(Standards and expectations)
1. Be in your seat with your homework out and a textbook open by the time the bell rings, not after. If you cannot do this, not only will you lose participation points, you will also be marked tardy to that period in the daily attendance.
2. Come prepared to work with a good attitude and respect for your classmates and teacher. This means raising your hand to speak instead of interrupting others (especially the teacher), not shouting out answers, and avoiding side conversations when you are supposed to be working. I will deduct participation points for not following these rules.
3. Speak Spanish!
Conduct:
In addition to losing daily participation points, not following the previous 3 guidelines will result in the following consequences:
1. First offense – Verbal Warning.
2. Second offense – 50 % off participation grade.
3. Third offense – 0 participation points, a "time-out" in the hall and call home for parent conference.
4. Fourth offense or any extreme disruption – 0 participation points, visit the Vice Principal and VP calls home for parent conference.
I do not "reset" this counter at the end of each day. If you were having a side conversation and got a verbal warning Monday, and I catch you having more side conversations Wednesday, that is your second offense, and a side conversation on Friday would make offense #3. Another side conversation the following Thursday is 4th offense, and so on.

- develop and improve knowledge of vocabulary and grammatical structures in Spanish.

3. Speak Spanish!
- Spanish 3 students are expected to ask questions in Spanish, and consult their book or dictionary before asking in English. I do not alow “spanglish” as Spanish 3 is an upper division course. Lack of effort to use Spanish will result in point deductions.
- Spanish 4 Honors students are expected to speak ONLY SPANISH. At level 4, you are capable of taking instructions and asking questions in Spanish. Spanish 4 students will lose participation points for using English unless you have asked to revert to English for a complex question or explanation. This means no side conversations in English.
- AP Spanish Literature and Culture is conducted nearly entirely in Spanish. At this level you are expected to speak entirely in Spanish with the teacher and with each other.

In addition to losing daily participation points, not following the previous 3 guidelines will result in the following consequences:
